Recap TYPO3 Developer Days 2026

For several years, the first weekend of August belongs to the TYPO3 Developer Days. And of course, I once again attended.

Community #

As always, it's nice to meet so many friends and well-known faces. But this year, it was a bit different:

Younger audience #

For me, it felt like there were more young people than ever before. It's great that the effort of the TYPO3 GmbH and the community is paying off. There are such great ideas as the TYPO3 Surf Camp that brings young people to the community. And there also had been special tickets for young people, if I remember correctly. Maybe there are other reasons, too.

However: It is great to see that TYPO3 is not slowly growing into retirement, but may have a bright future.

Many, many participants #

Either I'm growing old, or there really were a huge number of participants. Each day, I met other former colleagues or project partners, that I did not see the days before. Even at the last day of the event, I met somebody who I did not notice the days before.

I really enjoyed meeting them and talking to them. I hope, I did not overlook someone.

Missing faces #

Aside from all the joy of seeing both young and familiar faces, I noticed that some people weren't there. Some of them were ill and others had other reasons. I really missed some of them and I hope, I will see you next year!

In most time slots there were two parallel sessions. That already is a lot for three days. But not enough, there was an additional time track, called "Campfire". Similar to a bar camp with shorter talks and everybody was invited to give a talk. So there was a lot of input. Most of the talks I visited were really great. My Highlight #

My personal highlight this year definitely was a Bugfix.

The day just before the Developer Days I stumbled over a problem with the ViewHelper in combination with Extbase file types and wrote it down.

At the first evening, during the famous "Coding Night", I prepared a patch in coordination with Simon Praetorius, who reviewed my change and provided feedback.

The highlight reached its peak thanks to Garvin Hicking. He not simply merged my patch into the TYPO3 core, but made it possible for me to feel like a Core merger myself: he allowed me to click the mighty buttons myself! 🥳
